Sampler for my Advanced Free Motion Quilting Class is Complete

I’m happy to show off the class sample for my new Advanced Free Motion Quilting Class that I was working on last week.

FMQ-Sampler-01

What’s funny is that I didn’t take long at all to select the colors, because I really had to just make this up and get it done!!!

That being said, I think these colors work really well together! And most importanly that let the FMQ shine! This class is designed for folks who’ve already taken a free motion class with me. We’ll work on making our stitches more even, developing smoother curves and pointier points, and expanding our motif knowledge.

I’ll show you new quilting motifs we didn’t cover in the first class, and more importantly, work on varying the motifs you already know to fit particular design issues and ultimately develop quilting patterns that are all your own! I’ll show you how to bind your quilt completely on your sewing machine.

We’ll also make a sampler quilt that allows us to feature our favorite motifs and learn my fun and easy method of Quilt As You Go!

Class Preview Day

Save 10%!!!

Every May, the Redlands Sewing Center hosts a “Class Preview Day”. This year it’s: Wednesday May 7th, with presentations scheduled at 10am, 2 pm, & 6 pm. I’ll be talking about the classes I’m teaching at the 2 & 6 pm slots (I’m teaching at the UoR during the morning).

The cool thing about class preview day is that it’s the ONLY day of the year that they discount classes 10% if you sign up that day. Sign-ups are also taken over the phone, so give them at call 909-792-3994 any time that day and the discount will still apply, hooray!

Here are the classes I’ll be teaching at the Redlands Sewing Center this coming year (please note, that if the classes fill, we’ll add more throughout the day if needed!)

FMQ-Sampler-04Advanced Free Motion Quilting

Friday mornings in August: 8, 15 & 22 from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Take your free motion quilting to the next level!

Operation “Git ‘er Done!” for Quilters

Thursdays:  July 17 & August 21 from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Do you have an awesome quilt top that you KNOW you should be able to quilt, but you’re afraid to mess it up? Do you have some quilt blocks that just languish in pile because you don’t know what to do with them? Or did you get halfway through a quilt and just become uninspired?

Come to this class and I’ll help you get un-stuck! In the first session, bring what you’ve got for a particular project along with an assortment of threads and some quilting sandwiches. We’ll brainstorm what will work well for what you’ve got, and get you practicing some quilting patterns that may fit the bill. You should leave the first session with a definite plan on what you need to do to “Git ‘er Done”.

In the second class, come back with what you’ve accomplished, and we’ll cover what you need to finish. You may want more input on the quilting, or perhaps all you’ve got left to do is the binding, either way we’ll set you up for success!

Free Motion Machine Sketching

Tuesdays evenings in October: 7, 14 & 21 from 6:30-9:30 pm

Free Motion Machine Sketching is an extension of free motion quilting; instead of creating an overall pattern for background texture of our quilt, the quilting line is front and center in the design. In order to emphasize the handmade nature of our work, we retrace our steps and try to miss on purpose; I love the beautiful imperfection of a strong line that is created by drawing it over and over – it’s just my pencil is an electric sewing machine.

In this class you will learn how to stitch several different motifs: lots of different plants and of course my favorite birdies! You should be familiar with Free Motion Quilting, so that we can concentrate on FMMS techniques. In the last class, I’ll have you bring in some inspirational photos and help you extract the essence of them and free motion machine sketch your own signature motif. Although you may want to just work on practice blocks, I will show you how to create a fabric sketchbook in order to keep track of all the motifs you learn.
