Free Motion Machine Sketching Blog Tour Day 2 | Diane Rusin Doran

Next on the blog tour for my new workshop DVD, Free Motion Machine Sketching, is Diane Rusin Doran who blogs at Ooh! Pretty Colors. I met Diane in the summer of 2011 in the green room of the studio where QATV is taped. I had taped 2 episodes of QATV and my first Quilting Arts Workshop Dyeing to Stitch the day before and returned to pack up, she was getting ready to tape a couple episodes of QATV and her first Quilting Arts Workshop as well:

We became friends on Facebook and have kept in touch ever since. So when I was getting ready for another round of QATV and Workshop taping, she and I were able to plan an actual dinner together. I was done done DONE and she had to tape the next day, but we were able to have a lovely dinner with Vivika DeNegre and a neat little Asian restaurant right across the street from our hotels. Her awesome digital surface design DVD came out just after Christmas and I was part of her blog tour then.

Here she is standing in one of her beautiful quilts and wearing a shirt made with fabric she designed and had digitally printed:

And this Stellar Jay quilt – I love the texture of the dandelion behind it!!!!

As you can see, she likes to work with bright colors, and I always associate her with the color blue, so I wanted to stitch her requested botanical, the fern, on blue + blue!

Wowza, that Fern was a toughie! After studying pictures of lots of ferns, it was quite clear to me that the edge of each large leaf had to be “fringed”, and those took a LONG time! However, I’m happy with how it came out!

If you’d like to win this FMMS’ed fern and a copy of my DVD, head on over to Diane’s blog to enter! Make sure you take a good look around at all her beautiful work while you’re there!!!
