Studio Snapshots | Progress on a Passle of Index Card Holders

I’ve been working on a commission for 25 index card holders. I showed you the fabric palette I dyed for it a couple of weeks ago. Now I’m working on the design. My client would like a bird, perched on a branch that wraps from the back to the front, with one of 3 inspirational words stitched on it.

I started by printing out the rough shape of the entire holder, marking where the folds are going to be to form the holder, and roughly sketching placements:

Then I tried a couple of my favorite placements on fabric, trying out both a light and dark thread.

I much preferred the dark fabric and finished up that prototype for my customer’s approval – she likes it! So now, to make 24 more…
