Mission: 30 Custom Tote bags by Saturday Update #2

As the week rushes to a close, with 30 custom totes due by tomorrow, Thursday night found me turning all 30 of the free motion stitched patches inside out when I normally would be blogging, but here’s where I am now:

I’m so happy that I changed the way I construct these bags for this project, because now I’m on the home stretch. I’ll place and iron down the patches (I use a really lightweight fusible interfacing to make the patch), stitch around them….and then I’m done! Woot!

om [one moment] meet upMy one moment this week? Both my sons are avid readers, but the older one never got into my favorite series, the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. My just turned 9 year old younger boy however has been reading them, and I’ve loved that! (I love reading so much that I’ve always been afraid I’d push a book on my kid and they’d HATE it, so I never push…suggest, but never push). (Actually, when the boys were small I lived in fear they wouldn’t become readers, and although I read TO them, I never tried to teach them to read, but waited until they showed me they were ready…this approach worked, because they are both avid readers and read way above their grade levels). ANYWAY, my one moment was when I asked Logan what his favorite part of “Little House in the Big Woods” was, and when he said is was the maple syrup on the snow, I was like – “me TOO!”  How neat that he and I love the same part of the book! (My friends and family often remark on how similar Logan is to me…)

alamodestuff Linda has started a weekly meetup based on taking a moment each week to really notice something as you go about your daily grind life. I need to do this. You may want to too – read more about it here:

  1. Wow, you’re doing great! The patches look so good! My moment for the day is that I’m on the couch while dd plays with PBS in the background. Feeling crummy today. 🙁

  2. It is so sweet when your child hones in on something you liked as a child. Enjoying reliving that series through his eyes.

I love the leaf stitching on the patches. They look amazing! You rock, sister-friend!!

    Have a fab weekend!

  3. I love those bags! you’ve done such a great job with them and I’ve enjoyed seeing the creation from start to finish.

What a great moment with your son. The Little House series was one of my favorites as a kid and I remember the maple sugar on the snow! I think my 7yo would enjoy them, so we’ll have to try those out soon. We’ve used the same approach with reading for our boys with the same results. I love that they adore books as much as I do.

  4. You are AMAZING. Great construction technique! How I loved the Little House series too, but my boys never did. At least we all loved the Tolkien books equally, lol.
