Outfits for a Wee Baby and Her Big Sister

Good friends of ours had a baby just under a week ago and named her Teagan! Teagan has a big sister named Maren who LOVES pink and (her Mom) green. (look, here she is with a cute little pink print I won and gave to her). So I had to make some big sis, little sis outfits:
I delivered them on Saturday. Maren loved them. Teagan…well she was too busy sleeping, eating and pooping to really express much of an opinion, but hey, she was only 5 days old!

Her Mom loved the outfits, which is great, cause she’s the one who will get the biggest kick out of dressing the gals in matching outfits!

Of course, I was happy to make these, but a part of me feels sad/guilty. Back when Maren was being grown, we threw a shower for her and I made a quilt:

There’s no way I had time to do that for Teagan. As a matter of fact, there’s another Teigan (spelled differently), my nieces baby (hubby’s sister is way older than him) who will be 2 in July and I haven’t sent a quilt for her either. Sigh…the list of baby quilts I have NOT made is probably just as long as the list of baby quilts that I HAVE made! I shall concentrate on NOT feeling guilty, but feeling happy that I could make something that says “Welcome to the World” with my own hands!

I got an email the other day from Lidija, of the blog BluDor Magazine. She wrote me to thank me for the videos of free motion machine quilting I’ve got posted on my site. After watching me stitch she used the same technique to write nursery rhymes on the side of the hanging cradle she made for her 2nd baby who is due any day now.

Oh…my…goodness! How amazing is this?

Lidija – you inspire me! I have no idea what will come from your incredible construction, but I’m going to file this in the back of my mind…it’s such a wonderful idea.

Sigh, almost wish I had a baby! Here’s hoping Lidija’s baby has a healthy entrance into the world…once he/she gets home, they’re going to have the most incredible place to sleep!

A Round Robin Baby Quilt Gift

I’ve always loved round robin quilts, quilts that spend a bit of time with different people, each person adding their own special twist to it. I have not had time to do one of these since starting my blogging adventures – until now!

One blog I’ve really enjoyed reading for awhile is “amylouwho“, the blog of Amy Webb, a gal who suffers from “obsessive creative disorder”, and home to “Sew & Tell“. Amy is married to a Marine, and has had to juggle having a baby with 2 other young kids and a cross country move. If that doesn’t call for a baby quilt, I don’t know what does! I put my head together with some other blogging buddies who also are fans of Amy’s blog and we came up with the idea of a round robin baby quilt, where we each add to the quilt a special technique. Big surprise, I dyed the fabric!

I know from Amy’s blog that she and I have the same love of sagey green, light blue and brown, but I was worried that those colors alone would read a bit too boy (an ultrasound had revealed a girl). I had just done some “faux snow” dyeing and had a few pieces that looked a lot like little girl fabrics, so we all picked out my “wild rice” palette to go with “Amy green”, blue and brown. So I dyed up two shades of the blues and greens, “faux snow” dyed up a bunch of wild rice, and added some dark brown and the palette for the quilt was complete!

I packed up the fabric and sent it along to to Vicki, who designed the quilt. To see what happened next, click on the links below!

Amy got the quilt last Friday, and her sweet little Maggie is adorable with it!

EDIT: While I was writing up this post late last night/early this morning I realized again how awesome the community I’m able to create online is. How incredible it is that I can send off a pile of fabric to someone I’ve never met in person…and see a quilt made with those fabrics by a group of women sitting under a gorgeous baby! I know this is my moment of the week!

This has been the week of small projects! Although I could look at this and think I haven’t goeen enough done…instead, I’m just happy to be getting some small things off my list! Actually, these weren’t even on my list, they’re new commissions that have cropped up and need to get in the mail!

First up, a set of freshly picked oufits made for a pair of twins:

Although I haven’t gotten them in MY shop yet, I have a bunch of these outfits listed on etsy, take a look!

Hope y’all have a great weekend. I’m taking my boys to Sea World tomorrow, and then plan on getting a lot accomplished on Sunday!
