Mod House Ornament: Krisel “Butterfly”

Image from the Mid Century Modernist Blog

When I originally made this house, a la Mode Stuff Linda suggested I name it after “The Incredibles” – you gotta admit, their house is pretty super fantastic:

But I did a little research and discovered that this kind of roof is called a Butterfly roof, and the man who designed it and used it all over Palm Springs in the Late 1950’s was William Krisel.

One cool thing about this roof design is that it does a great job of catching rain that could be used for irrigation, etc. How cool is that?

I love it – I had no idea there were roofs like that, but I live in big snow country – that is neat! And of course I love your version, Candy!
